Steering linkage rebuild

Well, the front end I have been working on has been a real mess. Bent axle, bad king pins and bushings, damaged axle wishbone pad, missing grease fittings and worn out brake hardware.

Now, the steering linkage. All the 1' balls are worn out badly. I see that they sell the balls on studs and shafts.

Can you cut the old ones off and put new ones on. If so, what is the procedure to do this? I am a capable machinist and welder. This is the steering and if there is procedure here, I want to stick with it for safety reasons. Steering control is on my high priority list.

Any comments welcome.

Personally I don't like any of the replaced balls, and although I am cheap I bought NOS.

Ford thought enough of safety to test the hardness of every steering arm (look for a little grind spot with a dimple in the center).

If I was to reball one I would leave the most of the original post I could and use a ball bearing with a hole bored in it --a D shaped hole if I could, make it a shrink fit. leave a little chamfer at the top to pein it secure --or tig it

If I was to buy them already reballed I would buy from A&L

Everything I've purchased from A&L has been of the highest quality. Talk to Al or Bob if you have any concerns at all

I welded mine up and filed them round. I wouldn't do that much work again. I'd buy the reballed arms from A&L 1-860-693-0112.
