Steering for speedster

If I change from 3.1 to 5.1 gerars in my 21 steering, do I need to change the quadrant also or OK to just change the gears and shaft? Has anyone thought about using a Vega box in a speedster, I know all about how good the original steering was, but I can't see myself at 50mph with the original squirrely steering.

I am pretty sure the quadrant box is a slightly larger OD with maybe 1 or 2 extra teeth in it. You need a "Balloon Tire" era unit for the 4:50 X 21 tires vintage. 1922 (?) - 1927. From my street rod days, the Vega boxes steer backwards and they need to be gutted with the internals reversed to work. Look at Claytons story... he has a steering set up with about 200 pieces in it, all stick welded together. Gets praise from everyone, but as a retired nuclear welder, Id fail the welds on appearance let alone X-ray! My opinion! ws
