Steering fix for '40 box?

Another test yes or no find the center like petevs.
Now is your steering wheel 9 -3 postion yes or no simple.
My guess it will be ok or close.
By having the wrong worm you have more turns even you say over 4 turns.
Whats going on is the wheel go to the stops on either the frame or sector shaft.

The pitman is on wrong and moving. Now with the wrong worm you over drive and bend the arm.
Lets just face the facts and remove the box and fix it.

Now see the drag link nut on bottom.

I was thinking the pitman arm should be further on sector shaft and tie rod end should be further in the pitman arm.

Went for test drive and was close to having steering wheel centered, was at the 12 after 9 position rather than the desired 9:15 position; I could live with that.
Stopped and filled up the tank, made a tight left u-turn and steering wheel went to the 6 0'clock position for straight ahead! Thought if I made tight right u-turn it would go back to the 12 after 9 position..........and it did. New kingpins and bushings, tie rod secure and correct toe-in. What's going on here???
Here's a couple pictures. Wonder if tie rod end going into pitman arm is a non Ford item Visit 40 box revisited. Left turn bends or moves pitman arm.

It sounds like you have not got the steering wheel wood ruff key in place ,A friend had this Esperance recently backing out of a Mec shop ,the on look ers thought it was a great joke .ted
