Steering Column Loose

Hi, all...and Happy Holidays.

Wonder if you can help.....looking for fixes.

I rebuilt the steering column and the entire front end on a 31 SW 160B.

Couple of thousand miles logged, great.

Then shimmying started...now and then...normally on maneuvers to the right, at low speed.

Checked the steering column and it was loose at its attachment to the frame!

I re-tightened it and wonder now if the frame holes are elongated or something and after X miles it's shaking loose....tough to see all that with the column in.

If, so what's the fix? Bushings or welding of the holes or ?

(Also, the LOWER nut is such that the cotter pin does not go thru the castle flanges...it's like there needs to be a washer behind the nut or something).

Any light that you can shed will be, as always, greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem and found out that the bolts were too small for the holes in the frame and allowed the steering column to slip.
As I recall, with the proper size sholder bolts, there should be very little slop in the column even before you tighten the nuts.
