steering column lock.......

I drove orig '40 into the barn. 10 yrs later I disassembled the car for total rebuild; I removed the steering wheel, column, and box, etc with keys wired to the column and laid it on the shelf. now the steering wheel will not turn and key will not unlock. suggestions?

soak the lock in K1 or lots of penetrating oil and insert and remove the key many times, then try rotating key and tapping on the large button on the side with rubber hammer, see if you can get it to work before removing the lock cylinder retaining pin on the bottom and removing the cylinder for repair or replacement.

also, you might try turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the key....could be binding a little....good luck....Mike
