I am rebuilding my steering box. Now that I have the column out, I see some old old dried gasoline varnish stains around the perimeter of the bracket and down the tank under the dash.
I have never had any leaking gas but I run the edge of a paper towel on the high side of the bracket, it is does pick up just the smallest amount of gas.
I am going to put in the '31 style dash rail bracket. Is there some sort of sealant that I can put around the perimeter of the original bracket just to prevent any future seepage? It is not leaking at the rivet heads.
I was thinking about a small bead of permatex#1.
