Steering box

with out more info the answers you get might be kinda sketchy, on some of the ford boxes you can adjust bearing thrust and remove play by adding or taking away gaskets at the bottom of the box where the 4 bolts holding the plate on, or if it has a slotted screw on top of the box with a lock nut you can remove play with it by releasing the lock nut and turning down the screw till all play is removed, dont tighten the screw to tight or the steering will be real tight driving on the road

See attached pic from the Shop Manual. The 1949-1951 F- Series Shop Manual has a wealth of info.

I have a 53 F-1 box in my avatar - very simple units, really - I have an article somewhere about taking the box apart, cleaning it out, and putting it back together. If I find it I'll PM you for your email.

The construction of the f1 box is exactly the same as for the 47-48 boxes, the adjustment procedure can be judged to be the same.

Mart.
