Dont use grease, it forms cavities. I use Penrite Steering Lube. It's specially made for steering boxes.I just rebuilt the stock steering box on my 53 F-100. The book I have says use 90 wieght, however I have had someone tell to use grease? Any ideas or suggestions!
When I rebuilt the steering box on my 8N tractor, I used John Deere corn oil. It comes in a tube just like grease but is not a thick. Works freat on steering boxes and does not leak out. Just insert a tube in yoiur grease gun and put it in the steering box. Any John Deere dealer should have it.
I am another believer in John Deere Corn Head grease. It is a "wet" grease and will not create a cavity between the worm and sector. Great stuff. No leaks. MikeI've been using the J-D Corn Head Grease (J-D p/n AN102562) for years in all of my old cars & trucks and it's great. It's a grease that s-l-o-w-l-y flows, yet thick enough to not leak. Wonderful stuff!
