ok , maybe a lil OT , but can someone please tell me who sells the ford sterring box that replaces the stock box in stock location & works with all the stock parts . i think it might be a modified f-100 , but can not seem to find the info . thank you all
Your post is quite confusing,, well,, at least to me.. If you're really looking for an F-100 conversion then you might want to talk to Mel Gross in Ca. .. He advertises regularly in the swap meet section..
On my 30 coupe I modified the 2-tooth Gemmer box & it steers very easily,so easily in fact that I would never think of putting in a modified F-100 box.My mods consisted of needle brgs & modern seal in sector hsg as well as hsg cut back a bit to allow for a torrington needle thrust brg in place of the brass washer. The other mods were to shorten the pitman arm 1-1/2" & install teflon ball seats with new steering balls. It takes no more effort to steer the "A" than it does my modern car.My other "A" has the same mods except it still has the brass thrust washer & it is slightly harder to steer.
Steve,
I would just rebuild a original steering box and be done with it. I have seen cars with ez steering boxes in them and the people are not happy with the new units.
Steve,
Please let me know how this works out if you do it. I just bought a '54 F100 and can really appreciate how much the steering gear improved between my '31 and '54.
