steering box-gears 41 ford

The steering boxes used in Ford passenger cars and light commercial vehicles from '37 to '48 were very similar if not identical. Not sure I understand your question. Maybe be a little more specific as to what you need or want to know.

I have a 41 woodie, the steering is worn out, the adjustment screw is almost beried into the case. I would like to know if other year steering boxes or internal gears will interchange or must I find only 41 parts. Thanks
Sam

41-48 should work as the steering lock is in the same location.NOS parts of those show up on that auction site from time to time or find a rebuildable unit from a vintage Ford parts supplier.

Yours may well be rebuildable... Gotta look inside. You could drain the lube, remove the cover and look at the worm gear... If the worm isn't galled, next step is to look at the bearings at both ends of the worm. If they're ok, you're better off fixing your own box...

Good points about rebuilding your own steering box. There are NOS parts out there, and it's pretty straightforward. Get a copy of Vern Tardel's booklet on Ford steering, and it will show you the way. Check with Fred Wilner at So Side Obsolete in Fairbault MN
