Steering adjustments

The steering on my 28 tudor needs adjustment. It's a seven tooth sector with only one grease fitting. I have adjusted the end play on the sector and that helped. I know the sector bushings need replaced (the sector moves up and down. I still have end play and when I took it apart there are 7 shims on the end. How do I tighten up the end play, or is something else wrong?

I am not an expert on this subject but with a 7 tooth, you may need a rebuild. Maybe some other Barners may have other ideas.

Grab the steering wheel &pull it straight up & down.If there is end play in the worm shaft, remove one or more shims from the bottom brg assy.If the sector bushings and/or shaft are worn, you will never get the free play in steering down to where it should be-about 1" to 1-1/2"

The 7 tooth 'boxes are only adjustable for end play in the shaft, by removing or adding shims as stated.
If you want to reduce steering play at the 'wheel', other than replacing worm & sector shaft & bush , you can also locate & fit a 'concentric' bush on the sector shaft if everything else is still in good condition.
'RHD' who posts here can give you specific details on this bush.
