Steering adjustment

1937 Ford pickup has vague steering. Need info on tightening the steering.

I see some kind of cap where adjustment screw is. How does that come off?
Also steps to adjust.
Thanks

There can be a lot of sources for loose steering. Need to check every thing out from the king pins to tie rod ends etc. There are two adjustments on the box, one is with shims and the other with the adjustment screw. Need to use the proper procedure and understand what the adjustment is doing. I can post some information later

The cap screws off under the cap is a star shaped special lock washer which also has to come off and then the screw under the cap will turn. The special washer is marked as to which side is up.

See the adjustment procedures got posted. What you want to end up with is slight resistance as the steering wheel passes through the center position. Also, I believe if you had the complete instructions it states that the shim adjustment has to be correct before adjusting the screw.

Start by watching the sectorarm while someone is shaking a wheel (wheels off ground).
If the arm is going side to side you need new bushings...that can´t be fixed by tightening it.
