Steering adjustment

In Les Andrews red book, page 1-299, about assembling the 2 tooth steering box, he says that the slot in the centralization rivet should be vertical. Does this mean vertical when the box is on the bench? Making it perpendicular to the steering shaft. Or vertical when the box is it the vehicle? In the vehicle the box sits at approximately a 45º angle, so thats a big difference between one way or the other.

I would set it so your teeth are centered period...

Here are pictures. The process follows the service bulletins for the steering system ramaining on the car.

There is also an option to open a PDF and print.

Don't take this as sarcasm but you don't cover the 4th adjustment for centering.... I did mention this to you a long time ago.... Never heard back...your how to's are all excellent
Thanks for all the time and effort

It is on the list. The fourth adjustment is reserved for the steering to be out of the car and I do need to add the process. My drawings/Notes are usually on what I am doing to my A at the time. My steering adjusted just fine without pulling it. And out of all people please, feel free to criticize, I follow your posts. My feelings can not be hurt. In 20 years I will have the 2nd best web site next to forever4.

Are you referring to the eccentric rivet adjustment? The service bulletins say it is necessary to remove the steering gear assembly from the car for this adjustment, but I don't understand why it can't be made in the car. The slot is hard to access but it is not impossible.

I have done them in the car.. Setting the centering adjustment on the bench is easier but once your familiar with the "how to" it easy in the car
