Steelpack placement

So my plan was to run straight pipes all the way back on my '49 club coupe. I think I've changed my mind and I'm going to run a pair of steelpacks. I'm going with either Porters or Brockmans. My question is where does everybody put them to sound the best? I don't want them to be really quiet but I don't want the craziness of straight pipes with the flathead.

Steel packs are louder than glass packs. Glass packs get louder with use. Brockman are a good choice which ever you use. I run Fenton headers on my 50 so after you install the header pipes install your mufflers there. If I remember right the Brockman mufflers come in different lengths. shorter is louder and vice versa. Using the original tail pipes will most likely tell you where to mount the mufflers.

Much simpler & more effective to use a M/C muffler baffle as an exhaust tip silencer. Many styles available depending on your pipe size & how hidden you want them to be. I use this style on my 2" pipes. Significantly lessens inside drone & outside bark/volume on straight pipes or loud mufflers.

I appreciate the answers fellas. Let me ask a different question, which maybe I should've started with...
I daily drove a '51 Belair with a '58 235 before I sold it and bought this shoebox. I had a full split factory manifold on it with 2" straight pipes all the way back. I thought it sounded just about perfect. How does a 2" straight piped 8BA compare to a 235 sound wise? I've never heard one before in person so it's hard to tell.
I have a pair of Reds headers on so far and I intend on leaving them fully separate side to side. I also blocked the heat crossovers with '49 wheat pennies so there will be zero right/left mixing

What one person thinks is good sounding another may think it's loud. I can only tell you what I did with my 8ba exhaust. General consensus on this site is to use 1-3/4 pipe instead of 2 inch.
I custom made my own exhaust with straight 1- 3/4 pipe I left the option of installing Porter mufflers. I found it sounded great at idle and when I put my foot in it. Driving at moderate speeds sounded like a car without mufflers. Installing the Porters obviously quieted it down it with a little rumble. I am told by my overly critical friends, bless their little hearts, it's a little too quiet. I hate to admit it, they may be right but it's sounds better then straight pipes IMO. I would suggest try it with straight pipes first, just leave a spot in the exhaust where you can install mufflers later if you don't like the sound.

I think that's the plan. Thanks man
