I have a 29 model a was running pretty good. I put some gas in it last night drove out of the station and about 1/4 mile it started back firing, manged to get home but it was as dead as a door nail this morning. any ideas before i start looking.thanks latecomer

might have stirred up some junk in the tank.
HOW IS YOUR FUEL FLOW at the carb?
Should have a nice head on it.

Most times that I have seen this same scenario with the modern vehicles that were towed in to our shop the customer had unwittingly gotten some water with the fuel, or he had picked up the wrong pump nozzle and pumped diesel fuel, this is hard to do with modern cars as the pump nozzle is to big, .... if this the case it is an easy fix on a model A, .... just a thought.

What do you mean dead as a door nail, does it crank, do you have any filters on the fuel line. Drain some gas and let it settle in a glass jar, see if there is water or contaminants in it. Some times stuff will be dislodged in the tank and clog up the filter and or the carb.. Jim.T.

It sounds like you had a weak spark from a generator or wiring not working correctly.

As Jim asks, what exactly do you mean by "DEAD"? Does it crank and not fire? Or is everything dead, including lights and horn. You could have a bad ground somewhere or dirty or loose connection in the ammeter or terminal box, starter switch, etc.

Need more input.
