Starter

Hi to all,

I am working on a early 28 coupe, replacing the engine & transmission. I am switching out the multi disk clutch with a later 29 trans. My question is do I need to replace the starter with a later one ????

My understanding is yes.

The early starter you have will work with either ******, but the later 5/8" drive starter will only work with the single plate clutch.

The 5/8" is easier to find parts for and should be stronger since it's a larger diameter shaft, so you may want to switch starters anyway. If you are selling your multiplate package, then it should be worth more with the correct 1/2" starter included.

thank you for your help, so just to be clear I can use the early 28 1/2" starter on the later trans/bell housing?
