Starter Terminal Heating

My starter (6V) turns well first time but if several goes needed it will slow up markedly and the terminal from the battery at the starter end gets pretty hot. Any ideas?

Clean posts and wire ends for a good solid connection. Make sure that the wire is not undersized. A regular 12 volt wire will not cut it.

or the terminal on the cable is loose, the heat is actually friction caused by the electrons moving in the cable. if the wire is to small those little buggers create a lot of heat

Make sure you're not using a 12 volt battery cable. They are much smaller and won't carry the current needed for 6 volt. Six volt needs either 0 or 00 gauge wire to run the starter whereas 12 volt only needs 4 gauge.

Are the nuts, and washer rusty --is the cable one of those parts store ones with the steel ends crimped on??? (test with magnet)--the proper size wire??? --the power path goes from the wire to the terminal (the steel ends get rusty inside and make bad connections), then to the washer, then to the nut --which conducts it to the threads of the starter stud ---if the starter stud gets hot enough it can melt the solder attaching the windings to it --
