starter stuck

First problem Iv've had with 34 4 cyl. BB. Starter is stuck. Tried jumping, not the switch. Tried tapping lightly w/ hammer while jumping. Just get a big spark. What next? Thanks John

Put it in high gear and rock it back and forth,you will hear it when it pops loose.

Thank you It worked. Used a trck and chain to move it. Do you know what causes that?

Usually it is some bad teeth on the ring gear where the starter drive gear has been hitting. Ed

The bad teeth are the result, not the cause. The cause is the starter, the bendix, or their mountings.

bent starter shaft , the shaft is long and not supported on the end

take the starter out and check the teeth on your bendix starter motor and look at the teeth on your flywheel ,,,disconnect neg on battery and turn over buy hand having a bright light to illuminate the area that will give you a good idea whats going on,,,,good luck

Try it for a while it may never happen again. You should be able to put it in gear and rock it back and forth to pop it out. G.M.
