Starter Solenoid

Have to replace the 6 volt starter solenoid on my 53 Merc flathead. The new replacement doesn't have any writing on it (i.e. BAT). Been awhile since I took the old one off and can't remember which of the side posts went to the starter motor and which went to the battery. Don't have my old starter solenoid either to look at.

Can I hook this up wrong? If I were to reverse the battery connection and starter motor connection will it still turn over? Will it short out if I hook it up wrong. Hate to have to buy another one.

Hook up the big wires, hook up the small wires, if it doesn't work, reverse the small wires... won't hurt a thing... Karl
