Starter Rod

Here's an interesting minor problem. I'm going to replace the Starter Rod Grommet on my car. The original has worn down to the point where the rod is resting on the edge of the rod cover. I also see that the starter rod itself is being pressed down by the Control rod for the throttle when that control is all the way down in the "Idle" position which it normally is. I'm sure there has to be a way to adjust the spacing, but thought I'm asking the "experts" which component to bend or adjust to provide the needed spacing between these two rods. Thanks.

I bent my control rod, but you may be able to turn the steering column if it is the type that can rotate on the gearbox. If it is that type then there is a clamp at the bottom of the steering column. Bending the control rod is the easiest and lots of people do that.
