starter question

Sounds like one for a solenoid on a modern starter...shouldn´t be any on a flathead starter.
Only strap/bracket on a flathead starter should be steel and go from one of the bolts on the back to a bolt on the pan for supporting rear of the starter.
A picture is good to give us a better idee what you have.

If it looks like this it is for an 8N Ford tractor.

I used a 5/16 threaded rod for one bolt holding the starter together. It is about 3/4 of an inch longer and then you can bolt the starter together and put a extra ground strap from the starter to the frame.

yes it is like this pic. Got it from Macs and it says for flathead V8....will this not work? if it will, what do I do with the strap?

Thanks Mac....shoulda called you in the first place...your always great to speak with...hope the weather is treating you fine back there Ron
