chap52 Well-known member Apr 18, 2019 #3 Put the car in third gear and rock it back and forth. If you hear it pop loose it may be a bad spot on the ring gear. Just a thought??? Chap

Will N Well-known member Apr 19, 2019 #4 Could be the bendix spring has broken, or the bolt holding it has broken. Not a hard job to remove the starter to inspect the situation.
