So other day my truck stalls (my idel was set to low), wen I try to restart the car it sounds like ther starters grinding or something the moters still turing over but it makes a funnyt grinding noise its the origonal bendex that i put be brushes in 2 mounths ago.also the starter swich gets stuck down. what do you think?

I would pull the starter out and bench test it with a charger or jumper cables to isolate whether the grinding noise is in the stater or the bendix. If it is making a grinding noise out of the car then it would be safe to assume that it the brushes or armature, or bearing. No noise then the grinding would be something with the bendix, or when it meshes to the ring gear. The starter switch can be taken apart and slightly rebend the copper contact strap inside the switch to give it a little more arc. Not much, just enough so it is not getting stuck down when you push the starter.

do you happen to start your A with the spark lever down? You can do some damage to the starter if you keep doing this.

You may have bent the starter shaft. Starting without retarding the spark will on occasions damage shaft or bendix.

As previously stated, remove the starter and check it out.

If you have a cheapo starter switch, the "Brass" tab inside the switch is of poor qualilty. It will warm up and lose its spring temper. Replace the switch.

Check to see if the starter is loose.

With the starter on the bench, apply power and see if it motors properly. A bent shaft will show up real fast!
Also check for looseness of the bendix bolts.
Ya might tap the flywheel teeth. If a weld has broken loose, strange sounds can eminate.
