Starter drive or bendix

Cleaned the internals in the starter switch...what a corroded mess in there. Anyway I put it back in the car and starter turned over the way it should. It wanted to start ...but when I pushed on the starter switch hard, the switch came apart. I evidently did not bend the tabs over enough to keep it together. Had to remove it again and used some JB Weld to make sure it did not come apart again.
Tomorrow I will install it once more and try to start it again. Hopefully all will go ok.
I am hopeing that the draging clutch will eventually work itself to be totally free.

I put the cleaned up starter switch back in and the car started right up.
Main problem was clutch plate was stuck to flywheel with corrosion and corossion inside the starter switch...Both seem to be rectified now. Thanks again to all.

Thats good. You have identified the problems, attended to them and now hopefully smooth running. Good to hear a positve result.

It's a lot easier fixing a vehicle while actually working on it, then being on the interweb.

Keep at it!
