Starter Drive Cover

They're a ******* to get out ... especially if you're trying to save it .

Really? can't be too bad to remove, most oil pans I find have it missing, and I have to make from new.

you get get them off if you're heavy handed but they're pressed in and then a rolled lip on the inside of the pan to hold it and trying to get it off without damaging it too much ..ohhh..

I've had some that were completely missing on oil pans that I inherited over the years. What I've used to fix these are the metal tops that use to be used on spray paint cans, or a section removed from the bottom of a small propane tank (be carefully when doing this) used on a Burnzomatic(sp) torch, will work for making a quick repair.

I make an aluminum one in lathe when they are missing.
Sometimes trying to straighten them takes more time then making a new.

THANK YOU for explaining the use of the starter drive cover.

I do not have one and would now like to have one.

I would be happy to pay for a starter drive cover and shipping to my Zip Code 95326.

You can PM me if you wish to whomever has one for sale.

Go to local steel supplier and see if they can cut off a piece of steel tubing that will fit.

If you have access or know someone with a sheet metal rolling machine like used to common in high school metal shops, you could easily have one made. Any high schools with metal shops or vocational trade schools nearby? Give a donation after they make it. A/C duct work shops would definitely have a rolling machine. The roller looks like this:

Made one some time ago for an 8BA cast bell out of hardware store 1/32" bare sheet stock.
The original is not pressed in, it is slip fit with the inner edge flared to secure.
Rivets were used to serve the same purpose as the factory bead-stop.

What is the diameter of the hole in yours? I measured the od. on mine to be about 2 3/4 ". If you make one I have some ideas depending on the inside diameter. What I am thinking is to get a piece of 3" vent duct with a small end crimp and bead an see if it fis. You may have to slice and lap it , it doesn't have to look pretty as long as you can secure it by the crimp which you notch and flatten on the inside, you only need about 3/8" of the crimp. A 3" metel end cap should fit over this covering the pipe.

It may be easier to get a 3" cap for steel tubing like exhaust pipe. This could be welded on and will be stronger than the original.
