HI:

I got a question don't Model "Ts" Have the Stamping on the cross brace or what. As there has to be a cross brace on there somewhere or even a Stamping of some sort on the cars body somewhere.

Thanks let me know

The vin on a T is the engine no. Most of the 26 & 27 cars had the engine no. stamped on the top of the frame just under where the passenger's right foot would rest. Some bodies had a metal plate with a body no., usually under the front seat cushion, but it has little to do with the vin.

So in other words they wouldn't have a Letter and about 4 or 5 numbers after the letter. As if they did that Letter and those numbers would tell you were your car was made.

I mean what Ford Plant that it was made in but with just the engine numbers I don't think that would be possiable. But then again I don't know what the engine numbers even look like.

But you would think there must be a place on those cars that Ford either stamped somewhere on the car as to where it was made. As I don't think it would be the engine number would be the number and Letter for the Plant. And the production numbers of the car or Truck. But like I said I never seen the engine numbers to say that isn't true.

Starting in 1913 Canadian engines had numbers preceded by C- . There were some US built Ts with engine nos. beginning wit B - , these engines were built in a second Detroit plant & were installed randomly in production cars.

All American Model T's were made in one place, the Ford Factory then shipped to the distribution centers. Any Number other then the serial number stamped on the engine or frame as Jack said are just body numbers. Up to about 1926 all closed car were made by outside sources as were the open cars till about the early to mid 20's. From late 1925 with the introduction of the improved models, the 2 door, touring, roadster/PU and coupe were Ford made but the 4 door remained being built by out side company. Any numbers stamped on the body were the builders number. The "B" would stand for who made the body.

HI;

So after 1925 in the u.s. they were made by say the Budd company or some of them that is. As there I know allot of other manufacturers that made cars back then I don't know if they were all Ford or not but who knows.

As here I'm trying to figure out how I can tell if a Model "T" was built in the Milwaukee Plant. But it sounds like there's no way of telling that since that they were all shipped from say Detroit to Milwaukee to be put together there in the Milwaukee Plant.

As I'm trying to figure that out about what years would of they all switched to Ford building and marking there own cars in like the Milwaukee Plant. On there own that is when did Detroit start not building there own cars and having there branch plants build them instead.

As if I can find out what the numbers were that the branch Plants started with or close to it I think I can figure out what the numbers all mean. As I already know that there the production numbers but what I don't know is what they all mean.

As I have to get the numbers from say the beggining of the numbers and that would I would think the Model "T" and what the year was that they did that.

As I think those 4 or 5 numbers Stamped on the Cross Brace on the Model "As" are also the month and year that the Car or Truck was made. But it's in code and I don't know the code as I have to see more numbers before I know that one or to even tell that one.

But maybe I'm way out there and that's NOT what they are at all it's just I have to get the numbers first and study them also. As I think I know what the Milwaukee Plant stamped on the Cars and Trucks cross Brace. But I'm still working on that one just to be sure of that one.

I had posted a thread here "sub floor letters/numbers" now on pg.2, Ron C had posted an answer and a link to the model A site that shows the assembly plants for the A's that were also for our T's.

When I removed the driver side floor board it had letters followed by some numbers stamped into the sub-floor wood. My letters KY, Kerney NJ assembly plant. Hope this helps.

HI:

Those would be where your Car or Truck was made as you have stated but what I'm looking for is the "R" Stamping. As that's what I think the Milwaukee, WI. Plant Stamping was I think Stamped with the "R".

But that's what I'm trying to find out as of now and that's why the ads are on here and other places. But let me know if you do ever run into the "R" Stamping on any of the Model "T s" that you run into as I will be doing this Study for a while as it's going to take time to get this study done.

Thanks Reggiedog

What you are talking about is a "Model A" thing. It routinely gets suggested that maybe some late Model T's might have had the same sort of marking. To my knowledge no one has ever found such a marking on any Model T.

The Milwaukee plant is elusive. A Google search turns up no photos of it for me.
