Stalls at idle when warm

I have had this 1962 F-100 since 1979 and has run well until a year ago. Symptoms: runs and idles well when first started. After warming up it begins to slightly backfire when coasting. But runs ok when cruising with foot on the pedal. Then will die at idle. Will start right back up and as long as foot on the pedal, will run. Eventually will start to balk when running.
Things done to address: replaced spark plugs, points, condenser, ignition coil, dwelled, timed, rebuilt carburetor.
Have run out of ideas; any suggestions?

I have a '77 Ford 302 in my 50 coupe. When I first got it had symptoms like you describe. I was afraid to go out of the shop. I replaced everything like you did including fuel filters. I eventually installed a Petronix ignition replacing points and condenser along with a new coil. Runs strong now and never dies or hesitates. Good luck!!!

Yes I did replace cap and wires. Might give electronic ignition a try. But there still is a condenser and coil?

There is a coil but no condenser or points. Took about 15 minutes to install. Worked so good I put a Petronix in my boat engine. I got them thru Amazon. My friend has a '63 Tbird and he has a set in it too.

Tubby, I read your post with much interest as I just experienced the same exact problem last week. I already have the Petronix kit installed. My F-100 with a 292 usually runs strong. I have a mustang five speed ****** and don't mind long highway drives. Last weekend I drove over an hour each way at highway speeds. On my return trip the truck stalled out at stop lights. Prior to that trip I had not noticed any problem driving around town on much shorter trips. Thanks - John

John..............could be your coil is breaking down after it gets hot. Had one once do that. Ran fine on short trips but would fail when it got hot. Coil was fairly new but it failed anyway. Guy at NAPA said that wasn't too uncommon now with foreign made coils.
