Looking for square nuts 1/4-20 NC that ARE 1/2 inch square and 1/4 inch thick. These are bigger than the usual hardware store, boltdepot.com, etc. square nuts. Bratton's had a run made but sold out. Roy Nacewicz does not have them. Got any you bought from Bratton that you're not going to use?

What you want is available at most good fastener suppliers. They are called HEAVY SQUARE NUT, 1/4-20 and are available in various materials.
Some really good hardware stores also carry them but it is hit and miss.
The nut you want is .500" Wide and .266" Thick. They are not that rare and fairly easy to get. You dont need to have them made special.

I have had real good success dealing with Southern Fasteners for stuff like this. They can be found with a google search.

Good luck

If you want them to be exact to Henry.......won't happen.
To replicate you will have to get square stock and make them. Profile is different IMHO
Some fun huh?

George, I never heard of the term "heavy square nut" before but found them at Fastenal. Their cost is $1.33 ea.! Have not found elsewhere for comparison. Bill, agree that the corners are not the same and also about the "fun".

I know that you asked for 1/4 inch thick . I wonder what the application on the Model A Ford is. I have some like you ask for but they are 3/16 inch thick not 1/4. Let me know if these will work . These are old original nuts not new.

Roger V,
I don't remember seeing any 1/4" thick 1/2" across the flats square nuts when I was disassembling my 28 special coupe. I believe the 1/2" across the flats square nuts fastening the gas tank to the firewall were 3/16" thick like "figment" mentioned above. There may have been square nuts used in other places, but I believe they were also 3/16" thick. Can you tell me where the 1/4" thick nuts are used?

Used on 1928-1929 closed cab pickups for the upper seat retainers. We have them in stock.
