Spring spreader for sale on e-bay. do a search item #380566799658, current bid.$69.75, not bad. :confused:If I did not have one I would be bidding myself. and it has to.. "PICTURES woo woo", its a must have tool.... OLD....BILL

Although it is a krw tool, it's in rough shape and has been welded on one end.

2 days left, it usually gets down to the last few minutes before it skyrockets. Specially with 3 bidders already.

Hey Tinker,
Yeah, noticed that weld too. Does say KR Wilson...and if so, how the heck do you suppose that that thing broke:confused: Hm, and would it be trustworthy??

Someone might have tried to spread the spring without taking the chassis/body load off of the spring... or..????
The shape of the end, that should engage into the eye/main leaf, has all the maken's of being a dandy pry bar..

Don't bid on that piece of junk. The coat hanger weld is scary and the threads are likely rusted solid anyway. It's not a wall hanger, but probably still OK for a door stop.

Looks to me like someone shortened it .
That would explain the weld and the way off center adjuster.

My guess is someone used it for something other than its intended use. Not that we would EVER do that heehee

Send E-mail and I'll let you know how to make a spreader.

Well, if I was at my Dad's with all the welders, lathes and spare parts, I could have one in a couple hours. But here I got, no welder, no torches. Trust me I wouldn't use that KR thing unless I had the end cut off and fixed properly.

I agree with BrianCT, someone probably shortened it a bit so it would fit in easier on front springs. Having used KRW tools, and my spring spreader many times, it is a tight fit in front springs... and some won't fit without the additional fixture pieces KRW sold for front springs. For rear there were no clearance issues.

I think the weld could have been ground/checked/piece recut and rewelded without too much difficulty. They are the best spring spreaders when all is good with them.
Some of you guys might not think so... but that price is a bargain.

If I restored cars, I would consider $179 plus shipping plus the cost or effort to restore it. But I plan on doing my springs once. To rich for my blood. I didn't meant to say someone was crazy for paying it, I was saying I was shocked at the price and won't be collecting tools anytime soon.

I agree with you. $179 was a deal.
I have seen so many home made spreaders that frankly, I would not work near... yeah, home made might be cheaper but at what cost to your body?
I still can't believe folks make them with All-Thread®. Same guys that know very little about metallurgy...yikes.

I agree with both Larry S and Kube. I have one where "all is good with it" including the special attachment for use with '35 and up front springs. I had one made in miniature for '32-'34 front springs duplicating the KRW design, including the serious square threads. I've used both many times and they are light years better than any other that I've seen, homemade or otherwise. Like all KRW tools, those spring spreaders are well designed and well made. Even if some repairs are required on the one in question on eBay, I agree that $179 was a good deal for the buyer. In fairness, yes, I'm a KRW junkie too.
