I thought I would have fun today starting to assemble the freshly restored and painted front axle assembly. The axle and wishbone are original to my car, a 1930 April Standard Roadster.
I bought new spring perches from Brattons. I was a little surprised that the nut on the bottom of each perch spins on easy for about four turns and then started to bind and get real hard to turn. Almost felt like it is cross threading but it is not. Is there a slight taper in the perches that cause this tightening? It seems to tighten too much too soon, but with enough force and a hefty wrench the nuts are going on. But I stopped because it just doesn't feel right. As a backyard mechanic, one of the truisms is not to force things.
What is the experience out there?
Thanks!
