Spray Paint Advice

Hi Guys,
Ive been using Rustoleum chrome spray paint on some small parts like the head light switch and bale wire just to experiment. No matter how long it dries it turns gray and smudges when you touch it.Is there a way to make it more durable or maybe there's a better product out there? I sprayed a coat of clear over it and it got worse really quick.Too bad it looked great
otherwise.

Thanks

That is a quick drying paint.should have dried hard.maybe you got a bad product.take it back and get a replacement.try it on something else before doing your parts for the car ray.

Try Rustoleum spray "Cold Galvanizing Compound"; it leaves a finish that looks quite similar to tin-plate or zinc-plate.

I have found that "aluminum" paints frequently look "mottled"...

I've tried cans with the actual metals and found them too glossy for my liking, I'l dull them with a wet dry paper and denatured alcohol then a clear coat, repeating this process until, until I give up. nothing chromes like chrome or powder coat it.

MotoStorm...hummmmmm interesting, says it durable in the hype. But just how good is it I wounder. I like the colors.

Like any paint job it's whats under it that makes or breaks a paint job. Prep work is everything. In order to see it, light has to bounce in and bounce out undistorted. Perfectly smooth.

skip.

I have used Krylon Dull Aluminum with good success. For a little more durability, you can spray a little Krylon Clear over it. Just be sure everything is good and clean.

I think Eastwood also has some good finishes that look like Cad Plating. They also have some clear coatings that are very durable.

What has worked for me is what has been named Rustoleum's "bright silver aluminum". It has the appearance of Cadmium plating and will last for some time. I first glass bead the part and the spray several coats of the paint. Gar Williams

I painted my light switch with the Tank Tone paint that came with the Eastwood gas tank sealer kit since I wasn't going to use it on the gas tank.

Over the years I have tried all kinds of spary paint. I don't like Rustoleum, it never seems to get completely dry for me. By accident I found some really good gloss black paint. I go to a Lowes Home Improvement Store and buy the 99 cent generic gloss black paint, it works better than anything I have ever used. I just can't believe how well it works, I now buy it by the case. Give it a try and see what you think, you can risk 99 cents can't you?
