Just got my TRC -1A wiper back from the chrome painter after my plater refused to do it.
I was not impressed......
His process looked very much the same as in the video, but the wiper was returned with orange peel in the finish, blisters and some places where the coat had been torn off when removing the masking tape.
He excused himself with the parts being small and difficult to spray. Anyway, I wouldn't want spray chrome on anything large like a bumper for the reason that Brent mentioned : it will scratch. The attached photo shows wrong color (it isn't pink in reality) but clearly shows the orange peel and the blisters.
I might use it as is since I am worried that the super-fragile casting will not tolerate any more fiddling, and most people will probably not notice, but I am definately not satisfied.
The peel is in the clear coat only .
It could be lightly sanded and cleared again .
Just a lousy spraypainter, not the materials.
This product is not meant for large areas or a cheap way of imitating real chrome.
It has its uses of merit.
One is where something is real fragile like a pot metal or die cast radiator cap emblem, that would get destroyed in real chroming.
Another is where metal is so pitted and thin, and would not stand polishing for chrome, it can be repaired and bondoed and then spray "chromed"
Another very good example of where this stuff would be a boon, is on a pommie bike like a BSA with the large side chrome panels on the tank.
Usualy these are beyond repair for real chrome, the whole tank can be repaired as if for paint, and sprayed with silver nitrate on the sides, then the rest of the tank coloured and the pin stripe put on, and the whole lot cleared over.
