sport coupe newbie

I have a 30 Sport Coupe nearing completion. I purchased a Lebaron Bonney Top Kit, from someone who had owned it for years and not used it. I just noticed the rear flap/curtain is tucked in, versus using zippers to close, like what I remember from my families back in the early 70s. What is the history of the tops and which is actually correct? I called LB and they state they currently use zippers which would mean this top kit is unbelievably old, unless there was both produced in the past. Is there an issue not using a zipper'd version (pulling away from the curtain)?Any guidance is greatly appreciated!
