sport coupe door alignment

I spent all day trying to get the doors on my 29 Sport Coupe to close with no results.
I started out with 2 pads under each body block. I have a gap at the bottom of the door post a gap at the top of the door post and the middle of the door at the latch hits the door post. I removed one pad from the cowl which raised the door belt line above the rear body belt line which left me with the same door gap problem. I added one extra pad to the block in the middle of the door, the door still hits the post at the latch. I removed on shim from under the door latch post, just raised the belt moulding again. I added another pad in the middle of the door, no results. I removed a pad from the rear body block, No results. I now have one pad at all blocks except at the middle of the door which has three. At the end of the day the latch post still has a large gap at the top, a gap at the bottom and the latch still hits the door post.
The passenger frame rail is straight as is the drivers but the body standoffs that are part of the rear bumper brackets seem to be high, they hold the rear body blocks off of the body subframe by a good 1/4".
Also non of the body or top wood has been installed yet.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
randy

Randy...try going to tractor supply and buying belting material approx 2 feet and making your own shims...these will not give like rubber does. start with 2 shims on each spot and then go from there. I add to the two if I want to change and then see what I get. You have to tighten up all of the bolts to see what you have. I hope you checked your frame to see if it was flat and no sag in it? good luck buddy

Randy, try and get the cowl square to the frame first. Check to ensure the rear body stands are correct in lenght for your car. Put one shim in at every location and snug all bolts down tight. Now check the doors one at a time. We had success playing with the rear most "A" pillar bolt to get a good match at the belt line at the rear of the door. When yo say you are putting a shim in the missle of the door, where is that pad going?

Can you post a couple pics of the problem? The way I interpret your words it sounds like body damage that must be corrected.
