Sport Coupe Assembly question

Hey, all. I'm a little conflicted about reassembling my Model A body. I've seen a couple of posts and articles here and there that say to mount the fenders and running boards first, then line up everything as you go. I've also seen suggestions to put in the cowl and door posts first, and line up everything to them. What's the consensus? Easier or smarter is a big plus.

My next question is, I've seen some guys make a frame mule out of square tube stock, then move the body onto the regular frame. Assuming you have a rolling chassis, is there any benefit to this (the mule), or wouldn't you want to assemble the body right on the frame to begin with?

The car is a '29 Sport Coupe, full fendered. I am sticking a '51 flatty in it (apologies to anyone that finds that distasteful). The fender irons were removed when I bought it, so I'm sticking those on as well, if that's important to the discussion.

Thanks for any input!

Well here is the deal.

First you have to get your running board brackets set up in the proper positions.

Then you need your fender brackets and headlamp bar set up properly.

To get your front fenders straight you must set them up on the frame with the head light bar, aprons, and running boards.

The frame must be straight across the top.

To check the rear fender you have to put the body properly with the running boards and aprons on the frame and test fit them.

The above is assuming you want to be sure everything fits and is balanced. Many cars have drooping fronts of the front fenders and unlined up rear fender bottoms.

Thanks, Kevin. Good info. Funny thing - I just came across your slant window Cab website about 10 days ago and saved it in my favorites.

I definitely want it straight as possible. I am spendiong a lot of effort to tweak the frame. It's bowed down a little, forward of the center cross member.
