Those were crimped into the rim. They can be replaced ,but you will have to demount tire and weld in another one. I have some extras, contact me.jackdaron@aol.com
Are you sure it's really broke? I've seen some lugs ovaled out on purpose or a slit sawn through so that a bent egg shaped rim can be fit to a round wheel. Probably not the smartest thing to do but back in the day folks did what they had to, to keep rolling!
No doubt rims got bent and lugs modified but the original manufacturers did most of the lug asymmetry. They made an intentional oval hole in one lug or a slit to allow the valve stem to go into its hole in the wheel before the rim slid at an angle over the wheel. Without this, one of the bolts would have had to be made removable.
Originally the lug bolts were tight into the steel felloe of the wheel. Some brands were crimped tight and some just a light drive in fit. None were "loose" originally but did often loosen up in use.
Wire wheels do not have split rims, they are drop center type so the assumption here is the original question concerns wooden wheels with 21" rims ( 30 x 3 1/2 clinchers are not split either).
Layden, he doesn't say anything about split rims, he just said it has a broken wheel lug. Could be a split rim, clincher or wire wheel (meaning lug bolt of course). Dave

Carnut Sam, How are you gettin along with the transmission? Did those cylinders clean up good? Don`t forget to use some gasket sealer on that hogs head. Been wonderin bout how quick you thought you`d have it ready to come down here to Okla. for a cup of coffee. lol Monte
