Splash Pan Functional Purposes?

Additional grounding using the engine pans is not necessary if using the additional grounding strap/cable as I have seen numerous places.

They keep you from losing your aur cleaner when it falls off. It sits on the pan and wedges there by the exhaust. Paid for the one side right there. I put on powder coated units when I bought my car almost 4 years ago and they look like new.

The splash pans are there in case you drop a small part while working on the engine. They direct said part to the most inconvenient spot in the exact geographical center under the car, requiring you to climb under the car each time you drop a part in order to retrieve it. This is amazingly consistent regardless of the size, shape, or weight of the part as long as it is small enough to roll or slide off the back end of the pan. Without the pans, the part will drop straight down to the earth, with a reasonable chance of rolling and/or bouncing to a location where it can be easily reached.

How true! I got a good laugh, thanks

Engine pans are said to give 15% better cooling. I run them and I believe that they do. They also help with grounding. Positive ground electrical systems need all the help with ground that they can get for faster starter action. Engine pans are a pain to remove and replace. The only time that I can see having to remove them would be if the engine needed to be removed. I haven't seen the need to remove and replace mine but if I did I would figure that it would be worth the effort. As for painting, POR 15 is gas resistant, even lacquer thinner resistant. A POR 15 starter kit would be less expensive than powder coating, it would even be less expensive than painting if you used an etching type primer and a catylized paint finish.

I have had good luck with Rustoleum black Apliance paint. It is an epoxy paint, and almost as strong as powder coating. I paint all of my master cylinders, and wheel cylinders with it. I do not prime before using this paint. It is available at Home Depot. Several times I have tried using Eastwoods "chassis black" and "Super chassis black" with very poor results. The Eastwood Paint scrapes off with ease, just touch it with a wrench, and it scratches, right off, with or witout primer.
