Spindle pin thrust bearing.

Can anybody inform me as to the way up of the spindle pin thrust washer? I have seen it installed both ways. Form my reckoning, the spindle pin is fixed, so the thrust bearing surface must go down as it turns against the axle.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Sounds right to me. The "shield" or "cover" is on the top and partially serves the purpose of a cover and helps to keep dirt, water, etc. from getting inside the bearing. I have seen some of the replacement king pin sets with the Ford script thrust bearings that have the word "TOP" in nice big bold letters on them.

The thrust bearing in fact does not rest against the axle. the top of the thrust bearing is against the king pin "ball", and the bottom of the bearing is touching the spindle top bracket that the king pin goes through. It does not turn against the axle.
