My 34 needed a few small jobs after its trip to the nationals (5600 klms)
One was a loose king ( spindle pin) pin on the left side|
This was the same as the problem that was on the right side before the trip.
It looks like the pin had been built up with some sort of spray material like a Utectic torch job, but I could peel it off with a screw driver.
The bore in the axle was .825 in ,should be .812.
The bore was nice and round and no taper, so my fix was to turn up a small sleeve for the bore and loctite it in.I used an old ford axle as the bar stock and turned up the sleeve .825 od and .812 Id , this is a fiddley job on the lathe ,but came out very nice.
Fitted two new bushes and reamed them to suit, one thing I found is the smallest of nicks or marks on the pin will cause it not to fit the bush nice, the temptation is to take another cut with the reamer, it took a few minutes with a fine oil stone to remove them ,mind you, it’s a bit much to not have any as these came from the original ford packet.
It’s all back together now with a NOS ford pin fitted,
