Speedster Project

I was thinking that maybe you didn't get as many comments because you scared off the purest with the JD green motor paint. Looks good to me.

Right on Jay! Looks just like your concept drawing and thats a hard plan to beat.

So um... I noticed the coupe old intake and single carb in the background, could that be a future banger addition?

Thanks for sharing. I love seeing what others are building and the methods they are using. Please keep us updated.

I got a little more done last night:

I still have a bunch to do yet. Finish bolting it down. Build a tailgate. Also I need to lower the radiator some also.

Very nice job on the box!

And any guy that has a barn is a lucky guy!:)

Where I live most of the barns have been torn down and replaced by TOO MANY houses; and more houses means more restrictions and fewer freedoms! :(

Great progress!! You and the crew are doing great on our [notice how I have addopted your project] speedster, but I feel "we" should fill the space under the seat back with two drawers... Storage for tools etc I figure you could put a 9x6x20 drawer on each side to pull out and use a simple loch or sliding bolt to hold them closed... just a suggestion from on ford barner to another.... the wing on the box is a great feature!!! keep on trucking

Thanks guys.

Yes I love my barn. I just finished painting it awhile ago. And we used the speedster/pickup to ferry the ladders and tools etc to put up the wreath and Christmas lights.

As far as the space under the seat; I plan on closing in the curved sides and making a couple hinged lids for access under the seat bottom. Then I can attach the seat from inside and hide those ugly brackets also.

:)

I got the tailgate made this past weekend.

Here are the parts cut to size and fitted before bolting:

Here it is set in place with the strap hinges I found on an old busted gate in the woods:

Next I had to make the lower hinges. I like to use the envelopes that TRJ comes in for making templates:

I guess I didn't take a pic of the hinge assembly installed. I'll do that tonight. :)

I still have a little trimming to do and another bolt or two to add.

Jay I used a 30 grill on a 29 chassie,I had to lower it also. I notched the crossmember. You can also raise the cowl a tad with shims.

great looking speedster pickup.like how you used the round bail feeder for seat back.wooden bed looks awesome also.always nice to have a scrap steel collection for projects such as that.hope that your children stay excited about it.great childhood memories.need some headlights for nite time, maybe on christmas eve yall could truck around looking at christmas lights.

Yeah, I will get things lined up better.

Thanks! I opened up a pair of '30 headlights I bought 5 years ago for my coupe- and they have the hidden sealed beam conversions, which I didn't know. I bought a 6v battery so I'll need some 6v sealed beams.

I got the brake light hooked up and working yesterday. Installed a starter soleniod and a 9N footstart switch. I also tested the generator and it is putting out some juice.

Sorry no update yesterday for those of you keeping up. Last weekend I spent alot of time with my girls and not as much working on the speedster. I did cut the headlight bar off the fenders since it was patched and welded all together. I cut them down and heated, bent and mounted them. I installed some 6v sealed beam bulbs I got at Poorman's Auto Supply (GE 6006). I also installed the new ignition switch and did some rewiring. I didn't take any pics yet.
