speedometer needle replacement

I did some searching but wasnt able to find any info on how to remove the speedo needle on a 42-47 truck gauge cluster. Is it just threaded on the shaft its attached too? I have a junk cluster with a good needle that I'd like to use to fix my working cluster. I'm afraid of breaking it :)

Hi, the needle is pressed on, you will have to twist it at the base back and forth to loosen it up to take off, get behind the speedometer face plate and hold the needle shaft it is easier.

They are extremely fragile. Do not even touch the pointing part of the needle it's self. The one on my 50 just just crumbled at the slightest touch. Only touch the center portion.

I might also add, the 42-47 had 3 different types of speedometers, the Waltham, King Seeley and the Stewart Warner and the needles are not interchangeable the shafts are different in size. Make sure to use the same needle to the right speedometer.

Here are some pictures of one I just removed from the Stewart Warner speedometer I'm working on now.
