I just replaced a rusty speedo cable and casing with a new one on my 1941 coupe, took it fora test drive and the odometer is worling fine but the speedo needle just pulsates a little bit between 2 and 3 mph,i have no history on the car other than it sat in a garage 30 years.any ideas on what the problem is?

Remove The Cable At The Head, With You're Finger Push A Little Light Grease In Head There Is A Bushing In There,This Worked on My 33.

I had good luck lightly oiling the fitting where the cable attaches to the speedo. I used a light machine oil and turned the speedo with an electric drill. It soon loosened up and now works fine in the car.

Make sure that the cable feeds straight into the back of the speedometer with no tight bends.

if you can get the speedo head out of the housing you will see a small welch plug on the speedo head near where the cable housing screws on to the speedo, remove it and the felt wick under it, drop a few drops of lite oil 3n1 or sewing machine oil, turn the cable shaft untill it turns easy, the bushing for the speedo needle gets dry, wet the wick and put it back in then add a few more drops to the wick, replace the welch plug, if you can oil all the moving parts and gears inside the speedo, dont over oil
