Speedometer Help

The speedometer and odometer in my 1930 Town Sedan are very accurate for the most part. I have noticed that when I am driving down the road over 50 MPH that, in some cases, the speedometer starts to swing back and forth from -5 to +5 MPH under and over the actual speed. It acts as though it is loose. this seems to occur while maintaining speed versus speeding up or slowing down.

When I am driving under that speed the speedometer reading is constant. Is this a speedometer cable issue? Can someone help with how I can remedy this situation?

You can try backing off the cable connection at the speedometer. It could to tight causing cable to bind inside speedometer.

I’ve had that symptom in two speedos. Need to disassemble the speedo, clean it and relube. Papanick on this forum offers that service. Be sure to request a recalibration after the rebuild.

mike it needs to be serviced and set for speed and it could be that the mg may need to be reset to hold it in place at higher speed. papanick jrnichols642@yahoo.com
