Speedometer help

Hi everybody it is going to be spring here in Northeast Pa. eventually, and I want to get a rebuilt speedometer for my 1930 truck, I have a Northeast round speedometer in it now and am wondering first if all speedometers have the same end for the cable so they are interchangable and second if one brand of speedometer is better than the the others Stewart Warner or Waltham. Thanks for all the help!!

All of the round speedometers have the same cable attachments, the cable square size and thread size for the cable end. The Stewart Warner is easier to calibrate because the magnet has some adjustment to it, the Northeast and Waltham do not, and are adjusted with the hair spring only. The Northeast odometer is easier to assemble to a custom mileage. The Waltham has the nicest looking pointer for the speed, and the Stewart Warner is the most common. I think that the SW has the best drive for the odometer. If you have a good one, that is the one that you want.

Hmmm. Mark, I have always understood the the NE speedos require a unique cable. I'm no expert, but that's what I've been told. I know you work on these things, so maybe you can set me right.

Ray: The oval Northeast takes a different cable than the Stewart Warner, I don't have an oval Waltham to compare, but I think that they are the same as the SW's. All of the rounds take the same cables.

I sent a Northeast round speedometer to a shop for repair. They said they could repair any of the Model A speedometers. I will let you folks know how my research did with this shop.
