On a 1929 coupe with oval speedometer----- Can the speedometer cable be pulled out at the bottom without loosening or damaging any thing at top end and then be reinstalled after cleaning and oiling? Les Andrews book is pretty silent about cables.

Why, it is very easy once you remove the instrument panel to take out the cable, i think it might be VERY Hard to feed that back all the way up and i beleive there is a stop to prevent it from coming out to easy

Im prity sure it only goes in or out though the top and there is a ring to stop it from coming out the bottom.

Yes,

I believe you are correct, the ferrel is at the top.

Actually, it is no big deal to get to the back of the speedometer. I think I would rather do that then to have to get under the car.

Just my opinion.
