As I am going though the brakes on my 65 Mustang I am reminded why mechanicals are way better for a care not driven much.
This year all 4 wheels stopped working.
Tore it down and it was just the fluid mucked up with some minor rust. I do not drive the car much through the year causing the issue.
Before I let the wheel cylinders set in Rust Away I decided to spend the $7 each for cylinders instead of $5 each for kits. The shoes has melted, yes you read right.
You can not get american made stuff anymore. It is also tough to properly cross ref the right parts. All the manufacturers seem to no longer support the old stuff. Dorman makes new wheel cylinders in china with the Wagner numbers. The rear wheel cylinders are not drilled right so the bleeders are about 1/8" below the top of the cylinder. The Wagners that I had were at the very top. Fit and finish just not there 100%. Threads not cut right.
So what you gona do when you can not get juice parts that are decent? How many guys know what to look for outside of hanging parts and hoping?
Truth is if you start asking around at car shows others about their juice brakes you might decide to leave late so the rest are in front of you. How do I know, I did that once. Most of the cars with juice brakes had one or more wheels not functioning properly. Sad part is the number of guys that knew they had a wheel out and did not care.
So please tell me how juice brakes are safer then properly rebuilt mechanicals?
FWIW, it appears they have a new brake fluid type. They make a synthetic dot 3/4. Supposedly, I have not verified, it is less likely to cause corrosion.
