Sparton horn cover

Having done horns for over 30 years I recently bought a pile of horn parts and found a cover that I have never seen, it's a Sparton cover, most original paint, it has a tag with a 1928 plate on it, proper cutout for the wires,it's definitely original, but it doesn't have Sparton stamped at the rear of the cover,is it possibly between the Ford script cover and the stamped cover? Any insight would be welcomed. thanks, Alan

It may be a late '27 or it may not be a Sparton? The Stewart Warner cover from mid 1928 to '31 only had Adj. on it.

You say it has a 28 tag on it, is the tag in the same position as Sparton tags ? If so, what is the month and day ? Maybe you can post a picture ?

Well here are some pictures, cover Sparton tag is imprinted with a 2 1928 date, cut out for wires is offset of seam as other Sparton covers are, Ames are cut on the seam, internal photo shows original dipped enamel with a spot were it didn't flow to fully cover the inside, rivets have been set for 82 years, no stamping at rear of cover, only adjust around the screw, has anyone seen another, I know this is one of many stamped out. Thanks, Alan

Alan,

Some years ago I picked up a Sparton Horn Cover ( cover only); The serial number showed date of, as I recall, 102727, was very ledgable with good color) The unique thing, there was no "Ford" script on the back, only adjust. Judging standards, I believe, say the very early cover should have script ?

I gave the cover to Fred Gooding for A354. Fred 's son, Mike Gooding, is completing the car. He still has the cover and tag.
