I am running a 53 pickup with a51 Mercury engine (.60 over) with a mild Isky cam, EAB heads, electronic ignition, Red's headers and a single EAB carb. What plugs do you recommend ? Currently using Champion H-10.

I'm not having a specific issue. I am just trying to find out if there is a better selection of plugs.

Am running H-10's in my 51' Merc. and have at one time or another tried the suggested substitutes. None of them were any better or provided any improvements over the original H-10's.

I use Autolite 216's. Haven't used Champion H-10's since the mid 80's, don't know if they are any better now but, the Autolite plugs have worked fine for me, for many years.

NGK B6L
Had problems with H10's about 14 years ago, switched to the NGK's and it's been smooth running ever since. Except for the condensers failing. Have been putting up with that for the same amount of time. Just switched to Jim Linder's vertex magneto condensers, so I think that problem is solved.

I switched from Motocraft to NGK and it sure made a difference in the way it runs, idles. (Of course the Motocrafts were pretty old, and had been cleaned and gapped a lot of times which is probably why it wasn't running up to snuff."

Got my exhaust leak fixed, and that helped as well. lol

I am using Champion UD16's in my '35 with a basically stock 21 stud engine that's bored 0.030" over. I believe the Champion H-10's were reported to have problems when production was first transferred to Mexico. Maybe that has been resolved now and they are ok.

Don, just curious. Your electronic ign. Is it a magnetic pick up? Or light bulb? What type of coil and spark plug wires are you using? How many thousands gap are you setting the spark plug?
Thanks
Bill

I had problems with H10 plugs, they just sort of petered out and quit working for no apparent reason. Went with NGK and all was good. About 10 years since I used H10, maybe they sorted this issue. Oddly my Cortina and Blues Morris 1000 and Prefect all run Champion plugs with no issues, the Cortina and Morris have done for years. Don't know what the difference be, but them H10's were crap back then. Ate they any good now?
Martin.

The ignition is magnetic pickup. The wires are solid conductor (yellow).
The spark plug gap is set at .030". The coil is a high output. Don't know for sure the numbers.
