Spark Plug Autolite 3076

The May/June copy of the 'Restorer' has an article on 'Model A Ford Spark Plugs.' One of the plugs reviewed is the Autolite 3076 plug for use with high compression heads.

I was interested in these plugs, went to Amazon and searched for "spark plug autolite 3076." I found what appears to be a good price. A package of TEN plugs for $3.02 plus $10.49 shipping.

If you are interested they are still in stock as of this posting. Bill

After seeing this post, I had to get some other supplies. so I went to my local Advance A.P. and after getting the other items, asked about the Autolite 3076. He checked the computer and sure enough, had 4 in stock at $2.79 @. Who Knew? Now the big question is, now that they've pushed them out the door, will they restock?

Thanks for the tip. I'd like to hear how they work for you, once you get them installed, compared to what you're using now.

....and the shipping remains the same no matter how many packages you buy...

Hope this works.

Except, that when I went to check out, shipping was $60+

(Changed shipping to a lower 48 address and shipping went back to $10.49 -- for 2 packages, 20 plugs total.)

Oh the joys of living in Alaska!

I've always liked Autolites and use the 3077 [ 1 step hotter] in the 'A'. Most parts stores have them and the price is reasonable.

First, I really don't have a HC head. It's a stock head with about .090 ground off and it's been bored to 4.000. So what's that worth? 4. 6 or 7 ? I don't know. Next, the old plugs weren't doing so well and I had intended to get some out in Hershey last year, but it didn't happen. Anyway, The old plugs were 3076. They probably dated from the late seventies. Actually, so far I haven't noticed a lot of improvement, Some yes, but not what I was hoping for. I'm going to attack the points next.

Excellent article and i just bought some at O'Riley and paid 2.02 PER plug..cant beat that price at all!!

Well, the deal above beats that by a little.... I paid $16.53 delivered for 20 plugs. That's about $0.83 per plug. 'Course I don't have them yet.....

what makes that plug better for a high compression head? and what do they consider high compression?(always ready to learn something new!)

The 3077's were discontinued some time last year. If you like them you had better stock up while some remain.

I did the same thing, except since shipping to Alaska they tacked on another $50, I had them sent to my stepson in Seattle, I'll either pick them up there next time I'm down there or have him mail them to me (for another $10).

In any case, a killer deal.

I bought Motorcraft TT10's years ago at the local Ford dealer. They work well but do seem to carbon up. After seeing the article in The Restorer, am going to try a set of the Champion W16Y's. The Autolites look like they might be too 'hot' for my engine!

This is on a stock set up. Good article by the way.

If the TT10 carboned up, you would be better off with Champion W18's.

I have the 5.5 head. I ran the champion W16Y's for a time because they had a look I liked. However, they would carbon up fairly quickly. I took Purdy's advice and switched to the champion W18's and it runs good and no carbon.

From (one other opinion)

Recommended spark plugs for the Model A:

Reproduction. Champion 3X - $27
Champion W18 (Equal to Champion 3X - $13
Autolite 3076 (Hotter than W16Y) - $2.50
Motorcraft TT10 (Same as 3076) - $4

NOT Recommended for the Model A:

Champion C-4 (Ref. Ford S/B Aug. 1932)\
Champion W16Y (Equivalent to C-4) (Too cold) - $9

My Model A now has Motorcraft TT10 but I have a set of Champion W16Y and now an just a tad confused over both opinions. My head is a Standard one..
