What is the correct position for the Valve on the Spare Wheel on 1956 Ford Thunderbird.
Notice the position of the Valve on this car. It is obviously wrong?
How were they originally placed when new?

The Plastic Centre on the blue Thunderbird is displayed correctly, but the Valve is in an awkward position.
It is obvious that the Plastic Centre on this Hubcap has been repositioned in the Hubcap.

On the cream Thunderbird, the Plastic Centre is in the correct location in the Hubcap.
It is obvious that it has not been moved as it is mounted correctly in the Hubcap.
However, the Valve is in an awkward position?
It seems that it was mounted this way so that the owner could access the Valve.
Again, I don't believe this is how it would have been mounted from new?

This is a New Old Stock 1955/1956 Ford Hubcap.
Notice the position of the Plastic Centre.
The Hubcap on the Cream Thunderbird is exactly like this Hubcap.
Question - how were the Spare Wheels on 56 Thunderbirds originally mounted?

1956 Ford Thunderbird as illustrated in the original Sales Brochure.
In this illustration, you will see the plastic centres are displayed correctly, with the Valve at the bottom.
This matches up with the NOS Hubcap shown above.
Question:- Does that mean that the Valve should be at the bottom on the Spate Wheel?

1956 Ford Thunderbird Spare Wheel.
From this original photo, it appears that the Valve is located at the bottom, out of sight?

I have three photos of the wheel covers -

1) REPRO - Stem hole directly under crest

2) NOS (2) - One showing directly under and one with an offset.

I would post them but for some reason(s), my browser doesn't play well here. It works on all other sites.

This all proves that the original hubcap as manufactured by Ford had the Plastic Centre positioned perfectly with the Valve Hole at the bottom.
